Practical training
The practical or flying training for private helicopter pilot is done on the Robinson R22 or on the Robinson R44 helicopters.
The program of this practical training consists of 4 stages:
- The elementary stage composed of the basic training and a solo phase
- The advanced stage
- The cross-country or navigation stage
- The final review stage
During the basic training, the trainee pilot becomes familiar with the basic of the helicopter flying and the knowledge of emergency procedures. The basic training is completed with the unique solo period.
During the second training stage, the student will receive instruction and increase his proficiency in all private pilot helicopter operations. This phase emphasize as well the landing techniques outside aerodromes.
During the navigation phase, the student will be introduced in navigation techniques, procedures in controlled airspace and flight planning. During these navigation exercises, one learns to handle radio navigation aids.
The final review stage is the culmination of the training. This final section is the bridge to the flying skill test. After a positive assessment of the instructors, the aspirant PPL (H) is presented to the examiner for the general flight test. These examiners are assigned by the Belgian Civil Aviation Authority..
Before being presented for the final flight exam, the aspirant must initially have passed the theoretical exam.
